What Happens at the 6-Month Check?
This appointment is a chance to review:
- Growth, Feeding, and Introduction of Solids: Guidance based on the latest ASCIA allergy prevention recommendations.
- Developmental Milestones: Assessing skills such as rolling, reaching, babbling, and early sitting.
- Sleep, Behavior, and Family Wellbeing: Discussing any concerns noted in your baby’s Blue Book.
- Allergenic Foods: We'll discuss the safe and timely introduction of allergenic foods like peanut and egg, which should be included by 12 months to help reduce the risk of food allergies.
Vaccinations at 6 Months
The 6-month schedule includes:
- Combination Vaccine: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Whooping Cough (Pertussis), Polio, Hepatitis B, and Hib.
- Bexsero® (Meningococcal B) Protection: This is the only vaccine routinely scheduled at 6 months, making it an ideal time to consider adding Bexsero. We keep Bexsero in stock in our vaccine fridge, making it easy to add at the same visit.
Note: Because Bexsero can cause fever in infants, we recommend giving paracetamol (Panadol) beforehand. Our doctors and nurses will guide you on dosing and monitoring.
